FST TEAM

In the heart of a bustling university, five students discovered a shared passion that transcended their individual disciplines. We are the FstTeam Driven by the spirit of innovation and a passion for knowledge, we are aiming to combine our diverse expertise to develop solutions that would not only excel in the NASA Space Apps Challenge but also push the boundaries of current space research. Our objective are simple yet profound: to enhance humanity's understanding of space, ensuring that exploration is both groundbreaking and responsible. FstTeam isn't merely a name. It is a movement. A unity of purpose.

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

SAR (synthetic aperture radar) is a powerful tool for studying our planet and is used to investigate Earth processes—from earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to ice sheet changes and forest cover. Your challenge is to bring complex SAR data down to Earth by creating innovative artwork that highlights the unique perspective of SAR sensors. Create a digital art piece (image, video, 3D model, etc.) based on SAR imagery and related products—a work of SARt!

Problematic & Solution

Problematic:

The aftermath of seismic events, like the 2023 Moroccan earthquake, leaves indelible marks on the landscape, affecting communities, ecosystems, and infrastructures. Yet, conveying the magnitude and implications of these earth displacements to the general public and stakeholders, especially those unfamiliar with SAR imagery, poses a significant challenge. How can we transform complex SAR data into an accessible and engaging visual representation that resonates with a diverse audience, thereby raising awareness and facilitating informed decision-making?

Solution:

SAR-EQViz is a revolutionary approach to post-seismic analysis and visualization. By showing land displacement data from SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) data and high-resolution, up-close drone scans. We developed an interactive digital art platform that serves as an educational tool, an advocacy platform, and a bridge between scientific data and public understanding. Users such as civil engineers, urban planners, architects, and the local government can dynamically explore the affected regions, witnessing the post-earthquake land transformations, enabling them to conduct in-depth analysis and reconstruction plannings. The drone spotlights the urgent needs and challenges on the ground. It not only bridges the gap between raw data and human stories but also empowers decision-makers with actionable insights for targeted rehabilitation plans.
